Chelsea are on the verge of completing a blockbuster £117 million move for Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers, with the attacking midfielder set to become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

The 23-year-old has agreed personal terms on a six-year contract and is expected to undergo a medical on Monday before sealing the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Beat Arsenal To Alonso’s Top Target

Arsenal made contact with Villa earlier this month as they explored a move for Rogers, but Chelsea had been tracking the midfielder for much longer and moved decisively to secure his signature.

The transfer is a major statement from new head coach Xabi Alonso, who identified Rogers as one of his priority targets after taking charge in May.

The England international will eclipse the £115 million Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023, making him the club’s new record signing.

Signed from Middlesbrough for an initial £7 million plus £8 million in add-ons in January 2024, he leaves just 18 months later as the most expensive English footballer ever, edging past the £116 million Manchester City agreed to pay Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson.
