Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay’s rally turned tragic after a stampede broke out that killed 39. A video before the stampede shows TVK chief Vijay tossing water bottles at the crowd
as people were suffocating.
Notably, over 30,000 people gathered to attend the rally. In the stampede, at least 39 people – including ten children – died and 97 were injured. According to Tamil Nadu DGP G Venkataraman the crowd swelled due to late arrival of Vijay to the venue.
A video by PTI shows TVK leader pausing his speech and distributing water among the crowd. He also arranged an ambulance for people who felt suffocated.

After the stampede, actor Vijay expressed grief over the tragic loss of lives. In a post on X, he wrote, “My heart is shattered; I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital.”
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin visited the Government Medical College and Hospital to meet the injured people and family of victims who died in stampede.
Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the victims and also announced aid of Rs 1 lakh each to those undergoing medical treatment in hospitals.
He further announced the formation of a one-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by retired High Court Judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report to the government.
