Gujarat Titans are up against Delhi Capitals in their third match of Indian Premier League 2026 on Wednesday, April 8. The match is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting at No. 3, Jos Buttler scored 52 off 27 balls for GT, smashing three fours and five sixes for the Shubman Gill-led side against Axar Patel’s men.
Buttler, who was signed for ₹15.75 crore by GT in the IPL 2025 mega auction, hit all five of his sixes within the first six overs, helping him enter the record books.
He is now only the second non-opener in IPL history to hit five sixes in the first six overs of an innings. The only batter ahead of him is Suresh Raina, who smashed six sixes for Chennai Super Kings within the first six overs in the second qualifier of the Indian
Premier League 2014 against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on May 30, 2014.
Buttler hammered his first six of the match on the fifth ball of the third over of GT’s innings bowled by Mukesh Kumar, and his second maximum came off Axar Patel’s bowling on the second ball of the next over (4th over of GT’s innings).
In the fifth over of GT’s innings bowled by Mukesh, Buttler hammered him for three biggies (on the 1st, 2nd and 5th balls) to add a total of 23 runs to the Titans’ total.
The fifth six of the game by Buttler also helped him complete 600 sixes in T20s. He is the first non-West Indies batter to slam at least 600 sixes in the 20-over format of the game.
Before Buttler, four cricketers had managed to slam 600 or more sixes in the 20-over format of the game, but all four of them were from the West Indies.
The world record of hitting the most sixes in T20s is in the name of former West Indies captain and opener Chris Gayle. Gayle played 463 T20 matches for more than two dozen teams from 2005 to 2022 and slammed 1056 maximums. Kieron Pollard is in second place with 982 sixes in 735 matches. Andre Russell, who is KKR’s power coach for IPL 2026 is in third position with 784 sixes in 590 matches and Nicholas Pooran has smashed 712 sixes in 445 T20 matches.
