In what was nothing short of a scintillating display of talent, India wrapped up their Deaflympics shooting campaign in Tokyo with a commanding tally of 16 medals.
Across 10 days of competition, Indian
shooters were unstoppable, sweeping up 16 of the 39 medals on offer — 7 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze — their best-ever show at the Games.
Mahit Sandhu emerged as India’s standout performer, winning four medals (two gold, two silver). Pistol specialists Abhinav Deshwal and Pranjali Prashant Dhumal followed with two gold and one silver each.
Dhanush Srikanth added two gold medals in the 10m air rifle individual and mixed team events. Mohammed Murtaza Vania (one silver, one bronze) and Komal Milind Waghmare (two bronze) also finished with double podiums.
India’s gold rush also included Anuya Prasad in the women’s 10m air pistol, while Shourya Saini claimed silver in 50m 3 positions and Kushagra Singh Rajawat won bronze in the 50m rifle prone.
This marks a significant leap from the last Deaflympics in Caxias do Sul, Brazil, where India won just five medals (three gold, two bronze).
