A heartwarming video from Gaza has gone viral on X, showing a young Palestinian boy joyfully celebrating the victory of Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected mayor of New York City. Locals affectionately dubbed
the child the “Little Zohran Mamdani of Gaza,” turning a small neighbourhood celebration into a powerful symbol of pride and representation.
The clip shared widely on social media shows the boy dressed in formal clothes with a mock beard drawn on his face, imitating Mamdani’s signature look. As he steps out of a makeshift tent, smiling and waving, a crowd cheers and hoists him onto their shoulders. The scene, set against the backdrop of war-torn Gaza, has struck an emotional chord online.
The caption of the video reads:
“Meet the Little Zohran Mamdani of Gaza. His name is Taim, and he said he wants to be just like you. Everyone is celebrating Mayor Mamdani.”

Mamdani, 34, made history this week by becoming the first Muslim and the youngest person in over a century to be elected mayor of New York City. The Indian-Ugandan-American politician, known for his progressive activism and outspoken stance on global justice issues, has long been a vocal supporter of Palestinian rights.
His victory appears to have resonated deeply across the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, where residents have faced years of hardship under siege. For many, Mamdani’s election — and his open advocacy for Palestinian causes has been seen as a rare moment of recognition and solidarity from the global stage.
Social media users from across the Arab world have shared the “Little Mamdani” video with messages of hope, calling it a “beautiful reminder that representation matters.” Others noted that the scene captures Gaza’s enduring spirit, celebrating joy and identity even amid loss.
While Mamdani has not yet publicly responded to the viral video, his earlier posts after the election expressed gratitude to “people everywhere who believed that justice, compassion, and courage still have a place in politics.”
For Gaza’s residents, and for young Taim now hailed as the “Little Mayor” of his neighbourhood, that belief feels more real than ever.
