The controversy surrounding comments made at Pranit More’s recent show is not going to die anytime soon. Gurugram police has now filed a fresh FIR against the stand-up comedian amid the outrage over ‘Rs 370 Biryani’ comment. Besides More, an FIR has also been filed against Himanshu Jangra, the tech professional who made the controversial remarks.
As reported by India Today, the two have been accused of normalising sexual coercion and undermining women’s dignity. The FIR was filed after a complaint from the National Commission for Women (NCW).
This is not the first FIR filed against Pranit More. Previously, Maharashtra Cyber also filed an FIR against stand-up comedian in connection with the controversy. FIRs were also filed against Himanshu Jangra,
Dr Sejal Pawar and other people involved in the row.
As reported by the news agency ANI, FIRs were registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station under sections 75(1)(iv), 75(3), 294 and 353(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 r/w 67 Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, against stand-up comedian Pranit, Himanshu, Dr Sejal and others. They have been accused of making alleged obscene, offensive and objectionable remarks concerning women, consent and deceased persons.
What happened At Pranit More’s Show?
The controversy began during one of Pranit More’s live shows when audience member Himanshu Jangra was invited into a conversation. During the interaction, Jangra spoke about taking a woman out on a date and spending around Rs 370 on biryani. However, what sparked outrage was his suggestion that because he had paid for the meal, he expected intimacy in return. Many viewers who later watched the clip accused Jangra of treating dating like a transaction and reducing a woman to something that could be “earned” in exchange for money spent on a meal.
More Apologises, Issues Video Statement
Recently, More issued a video statement and expressed regret over the situation. “This is something I wanted to say for a long time, but my Instagram was suspended. Many of you might have seen my crowd work video, for which I have been receiving a lot of hate. I feel I deserve this hate. Because while I was doing crowd work with that guy, he said many derogatory things, but everyone was laughing. I got carried away, and it was a lapse in judgment,” he said.
“I feel this was a big mistake on my part. I could have stopped him there or taken a stand, but I didn’t. I gave him a platform, which caused things to escalate. To anyone who was hurt because of this, I want to apologise,” More added.
