Chandauli (UP), Jul 18 (PTI) The Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have recovered Rs 28 lakh in cash from two passengers travelling on the Kolkata Mail at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (DDU) Junction here, an official said on Saturday.
GRP Station House Officer Sunil Singh said the joint team was conducting a routine check at the station late on Friday night when the RPF yard informed them about two passengers carrying a large amount of cash in backpacks in coach S-3 of train number 12322 Kolkata Mail.
Acting on the tip-off, the team searched the passengers occupying seats 41 and 43 and recovered Rs 28 lakh from their bags, he said.
The two passengers, Rahul Soni (38) and Pushp Kumar Usrate (23), both residents
of Madhya Pradesh, failed to produce valid documents or give a satisfactory explanation regarding the cash, Singh said.
The officer said the recovered amount has been handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation into its source and the legality of its transportation. PTI COR CDN ASD ASD
