India’s top men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered an injury setback at the Indonesia Open, retiring midway through their opening-round match in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The world No. 4 duo were trailing Malaysian pair Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai 6-11 in the first game when Satwik signalled discomfort in his right shoulder and decided he could not continue.
It marked the first time this season that the Indian pair had retired from a match due to injury.

The withdrawal comes just days after Satwik and Chirag ended their long wait for a title by winning the Singapore Open 2026.
The Indians defeated home favourites Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in a demanding three-game final on Sunday, securing their first World Tour title in nearly two years.
The triumph followed another strong week at the Thailand Open, where they reached the final, underlining a return to form after battling injuries and inconsistency over the last two seasons.
Indian Contingent’s Performance So Far
While Satwik and Chirag’s campaign ended abruptly, there was good news for India in mixed doubles.
The pairing of Rohan Kapoor and Shivani Ruthvika Gadde produced one of the upsets of the opening round, defeating world No. 20 duo Yang Po-Hsuan and Hu Ling Fang of Chinese Taipei 21-14, 21-14 to advance to the second round.
Yesterday, PV Sindhu was the only Indian singles player to progress, while Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth both suffered first-round exits.
