For Sonu Sood, fitness has never been about fleeting transformations or dramatic reinventions. At 52, the actor’s chiselled physique and visible six-pack abs are not the result of shortcuts, but of a lifestyle
anchored in discipline, balance, and mental clarity. Known for his commanding screen presence in films like Dabangg and Happy New Year, he brings the same consistency to his health routine – quietly, deliberately, and without excess.
What sets his approach apart is its sustainability. There’s no obsession with extremes, only a steady commitment to showing up for himself every day.
Slow Mornings, Strong Foundations
Sonu Sood’s day begins long before the noise sets in. He believes in easing into the morning to align both mind and body before physical exertion takes over. “I start my mornings early and quietly. A glass of warm water, a few minutes of gratitude, and light stretching help me align my mind and body. The slow morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, no matter how hectic it gets,” he told HT Lifestyle.
This ritual underscores a key principle in his fitness philosophy: strength starts with stillness.

Training With Purpose, Not Pressure
When it comes to workouts, Sood prioritises variety and functionality over rigid routines. He trains almost daily, typically for about an hour, focusing on movements that build real-world strength rather than just aesthetic muscle.
“My workouts include strength training, core work, functional exercises, and cardio. I like keeping my routine varied so it challenges my body and keeps things interesting.”
This mix not only prevents boredom but also reduces the risk of injury, ensuring longevity – an often overlooked aspect of fitness after 50.
Home-Style Nutrition That Fuels, Not Restricts
Diet, for Sood, is rooted in simplicity. He avoids extreme food rules, choosing instead to listen to his body and adjust based on his workload.
“I don’t believe in extreme dieting; meals are adjusted depending on my shoot schedule or physical demands, but the foundation remains the same – home-style food, portion control, and good nutrition.”
During long shoot days, he relies on foods that are light yet energising. “I usually rely on fresh fruits, nuts, sprouts, and lentils for energy… roasted chana, fruit bowls, or simple homemade protein snacks,” he shares. These choices keep him focused without weighing him down.
The Mental Muscle That Matters Most
Beyond physical fitness, Sood places equal emphasis on mental strength. Regular meditation and breathing exercises help him manage stress, stay centred, and remain resilient.
At 52, Sonu Sood’s routine is a reminder that health isn’t about chasing youth, but about respecting the body enough to care for it consistently.
