A Reddit post is gaining a lot of attention after a user shared that they visited their uncle’s home in a posh gated community in Bengaluru, and the experience left them “reeling.”
The post begins with
the user saying that he was invited for lunch at his uncle’s house. “They live in one of those tony CEO villa communities that you hear about but never actually step into. You know manicured lawns, golf carts zipping by, silence so perfect it almost feels imported,” the post read.
In the viral Reddit post, the man shared that his uncle is a former expat who led Asia-Pacific operations for an MNC in Singapore and now lives in Bengaluru.
‘House Felt Like Small Museum Of Success’
Describing the house, the user said it was “like a small museum of success. Double height ceilings, art I couldn’t even name, furniture that looked allergic to fingerprints.”

To the user, the house wasn’t just a luxury, but felt surreal. The double-height ceilings, unnamed art and luxury furniture prompted the user to reflect on his own 2BHK modest lifestyle.
“And while I’m content with my own life, my modest 2BHK, my routine, my stability, I couldn’t help but feel a strange mix of awe and smallness,” the user said.
The user said that the visit triggered deep reflection in his mind: “Sometimes we’re too poor to even know what we’re missing out on.”
According to the user, he was so anxious about visiting the house that they spent almost their entire grocery budget on a gift.
‘I Know My Limitations’
“I’m not bitter at all. I’m content. I know my limitations, I have made my peace with it that I’ll never ever have something like this.” the user concluded the post, noting that his uncle studied computer engineering “before it was famous.”
Reacting to the experience, many users commented that they felt similar when they visited Europe or America. “I felt something similar when I visited Europe for the first time lol. Realised how centuries behind we are….” a comment read.
Other users also echoed similar sentiments, recalling their personal experience with knowing wealthy people.
“From someone who lived like you and now lives like your uncle: I was content then and content now. Live the life in the present and you will one day get there and wonder what’s the fuss..,” a comment read.
While stressing that comparison is the thief of joy, a user also joked, “Your uncle might feel the same way if he visited Antilia,” comparing it to billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai mansion.
