Losing a job is never easy, but the timing made it even harder for one man who is about to become a father. The situation left him feeling worried about both his career and his family’s future.
The man shared his experience online, explaining how he is trying to deal with the sudden change while also preparing for a major moment in his personal life.
Job Loss Comes At Tough Time
The man said he was laid off from a small design firm where he had worked for more than two years. It was his first job in the field after completing a bootcamp, which made the loss feel even more personal.
“Having a lot of difficult feelings right now, feeling like a failure, scared of what this means for my family… worst part is I can’t even tell her because she leaves
for vacation tomorrow morning and I don’t want to to ruin it,” he wrote on Reddit.
His wife is expecting their baby in August. He shared that he has not told her yet because she is about to leave for a short trip, and he did not want to add stress before that.
At the same time, the uncertainty about money and job stability has been weighing heavily on him.
Worry About Future And Job Search
Despite everything, the man said he plans to start looking for a new job right away. He believes he has built a strong portfolio during his time at work but is still unsure about his chances.
“The job search starts tomorrow and I hope I can bounce back quickly but I’m worried about the market. I have a lot of solid sites in my portfolio but I’m worried that won’t be enough. Any words of encouragement would be really appreciated,” he added.
His post shows a mix of hope and fear, as he tries to stay positive while dealing with the pressure of supporting a growing family.
People Share Advice And Support
Many people responded to his post with advice and kind words. Some focused on practical steps he could take right away.
“Apply for unemployment asap. Some states have a lag period,” a user advised.
Others tried to lift his spirits. “Happens to the best and worst of us. Take it on the chin… Wake up tomorrow, your new job is finding a job,” another wrote.
Some also addressed how he was feeling about himself. “From my experience, the first day after something like this is always louder in your head than it looks from the outside,” a comment read.
Another added, “You are scared because you care, not because you failed… a solid portfolio plus two years of real work is a much better position than a lot of people have.”
A few people also spoke about his decision not to tell his wife yet. “Nah man, this is news you mention immediately. Make a plan with your wife on how to navigate this, that is what a marriage is,” one user said.
Another shared, “The first thing I did each time I got laid off was tell my partner. They need to know asap.”
