The Central Railway will impose a 75-day traffic and power block at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) from October 1 to December 15, 2026, for station redevelopment work.
Why? What will change?
THE TRAFFIC, POWER BLOCK
Duration: October 1 to December 15, 2026
(75 days).Location: Platforms 14 and 15 and stabling line 15 at CSMT.
Reason: Phase-I redevelopment by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), involving foundation and construction work.
WHY?
The block is required for Phase-I of the ₹2,450-crore CSMT Station Redevelopment Project, which is being executed by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). During these 75 days, engineering teams will carry out massive foundation laying and essential infrastructure construction activities. Because of the nature
of the construction, all train operations on Platforms 14 and 15, as well as stabling line 15, must be completely suspended for safety. The 75-day mega block involves heavy structural engineering, foundational, and modernization work required to transform the station into a world-class transit hub. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) is executing the following upgrades during this phase: Foundational Piling: Digging and laying massive underground concrete foundations directly on platforms 14 and 15 and stabling line 15 to support a massive, upcoming elevated passenger concourse. Station Upgrades: Building new passenger-related structures, including retail zones, waiting areas, and upgraded parcel facilities. Track Modernisation: Laying down durable, low-maintenance ballastless tracks along the affected platform lines. Infrastructure Shifting: Relocating existing overhead cables, signal wires, and utility pipelines to safely accommodate the new architecture.
Because heavy drilling rigs, concrete mixers, and cranes must occupy the platform spaces, the power grids and train tracks on platforms 14 and 15 must remain completely shut down for the safety of passengers and workers.
IMPACT ON TRAINS
Short-Terminated Trains: 8 long-distance Mail/Express trains will be short-terminated at Dadar and Thane instead of running up to CSMT.
Short-Terminated at Dadar: Trains including the 11002 Nandigram Express, 12810 Howrah Express, 12112 Amravati Express, 11020 Konark Express, 22120 Tejas Express, 22144 Bidar Express, and 22108 Latur Express.
Short-Terminated at Thane: The 12134 Mangaluru Express.
Operations: Train movements on platforms 14 and 15 will remain completely suspended during this period.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR CENTRAL RAILWAY COMMUTERS?
Long-distance passengers traveling to and from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will be the primary group impacted by the 75-day mega block from October 1 to December 15, 2026. Eight major outstation Mail/Express trains are completely barred from entering CSMT and will terminate early.
Eight prominent outstation trains will be short-terminated and will not reach CSMT. Instead, they will end their journeys at alternative hubs like Dadar or Thane.
While suburban local trains are not directly cancelled, passengers should anticipate secondary congestion at Dadar and Thane.
