Kakatiya University, one of Telangana’s leading public institutions, has come under scrutiny after a disturbing incident raised serious concerns about student safety and hostel conditions.
The incident took place at the Samakka-Saralamma Girls Hostel, where students from across the state reside. According to reports, rats entered hostel rooms at night and bit students while they were asleep, sparking panic on campus.
On the night of March 26, at least 11 female students were reportedly injured in such attacks. The incident has highlighted the severity of sanitation and maintenance issues in the hostel, with students warning of potential health risks.
Those affected have alleged that even basic medical care was not immediately provided. Students
claim they were not given essential tetanus (TT) injections at the campus health centre and had to seek treatment at private hospitals. They also say their complaints to authorities have gone largely unanswered.
Students have further raised concerns about the growing presence of rats, mosquitoes, and stray dogs in the hostel premises. Despite repeated complaints, they allege that little action has been taken to address these issues.
The incident has triggered anger and anxiety among residents, who are now demanding urgent intervention. Students are calling on university authorities to improve hostel conditions and take immediate steps to control the infestation.
The situation has raised broader questions about infrastructure, hygiene, and student welfare at a prominent state-run university.
