Al-Falah University founder and chancellor Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui was arrested on Tuesday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), officials confirmed.
The
arrest followed hours after searches at his residence and his questioning.
According to reports, investigators have detected irregular financial transactions across several firms linked to Siddiqui.
The agency is also probing whether funds generated through the alleged laundering were diverted to terror-linked activities, including any association with suspects tied to the recent Red Fort blast probe.
Al-Falah University has come under the scanner ever since the Delhi car blast case investigation pointed to individuals with alleged links to the varsity.
The fresh action against Siddiqui also coincides with law enforcement tightening its net around his younger brother.
Arrest Of His Younger Brother
The ED’s move comes shortly after Siddiqui’s younger brother, Hamud (Hamood) Ahmad Siddiqui, was arrested in Hyderabad by Madhya Pradesh Police.
Hamud had been absconding for nearly 25 years in connection with multiple investment fraud cases filed in Mhow in 2000.
The 50-year-old, wanted in at least four criminal cases, including a 1988 rioting and attempted murder case, was detained in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli area on Sunday.
Police said Hamud had been running a share market investment firm in the locality.
Investigators revealed that in the 1990s, Hamud operated another investment venture in Mhow, promising 20% returns to investors.
He allegedly disappeared after collecting over ₹40 lakh, leading to three cases under Section 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
Who Is Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui?
Siddiqui’s name came under wider public scrutiny after the November 10 blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed at least 13 people and triggered a nationwide terror investigation.
Soon after the explosion, agencies discovered links between the accused terrorist and three medical doctors associated with Al-Falah University.
The doctors were arrested in a joint operation by Haryana Police and Jammu & Kashmir Police, and nearly 2,900 kg of explosives were recovered from locations tied to them.
Surprisingly, Siddiqui maintains almost no digital presence, with only a sparse LinkedIn profile listing his roles:
- Managing Trustee, Al-Falah Charitable Trust (since 1995)
- Chancellor, Al-Falah University (since 2014)
- Managing Director, Al-Falah Investments Limited (since 1996)
Indore Additional SP Rupesh Dwivedi said that Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui and his family previously lived in Mhow’s Kayasth Mohalla, where his father, Mohammad Hamid Siddiqui, served as the Seher Qazi.
According to a Times of India report, Siddiqui became a director at Al-Falah Investments on 18 September 1992.
He later emerged as a key figure behind the Al-Falah Charitable Trust, established in 1995, which now oversees Al-Falah University along with several affiliated institutions. The university’s primary campus, located in Dhauj village in Faridabad, spans 78 acres.
