Police have arrested five members of a family for allegedly entering India illegally from Bangladesh in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
The arrests were made in the Dhumarpahar area under the jurisdiction of Sagardighi Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Uzir Ali (43), his wife Jainur Khatun (36), and their three sons — Shihad Sheikh (15), Inzamul Haque (10), and Abdul Samad Sheikh (4).
According to police sources, the family hails from the Chapai Nawabganj district of Bangladesh. Police said the family was apprehended during an operation in the area. Further investigation is underway.
In another incident, an alleged attempt by Bangladeshi nationals to enter India was foiled by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh
border in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district.
The incident took place in the Sangarbari area under the Khalishamari Gram Panchayat in Sitalkuchi Block. According to local residents, around 10 to 11 Bangladeshi nationals were seen assembled on the Bangladesh side of the border during the morning.
Residents alleged that the group later attempted to cross into Indian territory. However, BSF personnel stationed in the area reportedly acted swiftly and prevented any unauthorised entry.
