Siddhesh Lad will lead Mumbai in the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, taking over the captaincy from Shardul Thakur. The change has been made with Thakur’s workload in mind.
Thakur had taken over from Ajinkya Rahane as Mumbai captain for the 2025-26 season.
Mumbai, the 42-time Ranji Trophy champions, reached the quarterfinals under the India allrounder’s captaincy last season.
The latest Ranji Trophy season begins on October 11, with Mumbai set to open their campaign against Chandigarh.
A senior official from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has confirmed Lad‘s appointment.
The 34-year-old returned to the Mumbai setup in 2024-25 after a one-year cooling-off period following his move to Goa.
Lad was in outstanding form with the bat during the last
Ranji Trophy season. He accumulated 774 runs from eight matches at an average of 77.40, including five centuries and one half-century.
