Team India succumbed to yet another whitewash at home, this time at the hands of World Test Champions South Africa, as they conceded a 408-run defeat at the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati.
Following the
damaging defeat, a section of the Team India faithful jeered the head coach of the side, Gautam Gambhir, before seamer Mohammed Siraj and assistant coach Sitanshu Kotak had to intervene. Amid the escalating fan unrest, police had to intervene to deal with the protests.
Fans bellowed, ‘Gambhir Haye Haye’ and ‘Gambhir Go Back’ before Kotak questioned the fans, “Ek aadhmi India ke liye itna bolta hai aur aap haye haye bol rahe ho?”
When Indian fans were booing Gautam Gambhir after the shambolic home Test series loss, the batting coach asked them to stop by saying, “Aadmi India ke liye itna bolta hai aur aap ‘hai hai’ bol rahe ho.”

India’s defeat also marked their largest loss by runs on home soil, leading to their second series whitewash at home in just over a year. The visiting Proteas secured a 2-0 series victory with their wins over the hosts.
South Africa amassed a first innings total of 489 runs, thanks to Senuran Muthusamy’s 109 and Marco Jansen’s 93-run efforts, while Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball, taking four wickets. In response, India managed a disappointing 201 runs, with Jansen claiming six wickets and Yashasvi Jaiswal being the only Indian batter to score a half-century.
In their second innings, South Africa added 260 runs to their lead, with Tristan Stubbs contributing 94 runs before the visitors declared with half their side yet to bat.
The Proteas’ decision proved to be ideal, as Temba Bavuma’s team bowled India out for a meager 140 runs. Ravindra Jadeja’s 54-run knock was the sole highlight for India, while Simon Harmer took six wickets.
South Africa registered a 30-run win over India in the series opener at the Eden Gardens in a low-scoring contest as SA posted a total of 159 in the first innings as India replied with 189, however, the Proteas made 153 runs in the second innings before limiting India to a paltry score of 93 runs.
