A software engineer from Whitefield in Bengaluru has lodged a police complaint alleging that she was cheated of Rs 1.75 crore by a man she met on a matrimonial platform, who promised to marry her while concealing that he was already married and had a child.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Vijay Raj Gowda, projected himself as a wealthy businessman claiming assets worth Rs 715 crore. He allegedly introduced the woman to his family near Kengeri, presenting his wife as his sister.
The complainant alleged that Gowda cited Enforcement Directorate cases, frozen bank accounts and ongoing court proceedings to seek money from her in stages. He is accused of arranging loans in her name and borrowing large sums from her friends and relatives.
The fraud reportedly came to light after Gowda returned only Rs 22 lakh and allegedly threatened those who demanded repayment.
Police said a case has been registered against Vijay Raj Gowda, his father Boregowda, and Soumya, who police believe is Vijay’s wife. The complaint was initially filed at the Whitefield police station and was later transferred to the Kengeri Police Station, where further investigation is underway.
