Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong highlighted the growing depth and strategic significance of Australia-India relations during her visit to New Delhi, where she co-hosted the 16th Foreign Ministers’
Framework Dialogue with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Calling the bilateral partnership “closer and more consequential than ever,” Wong said the discussions focused on leveraging shared strengths for the benefit of both nations and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
In a post on X on Friday, the Australian Foreign Minister wrote, “Australia & India’s partnership has never been closer nor more consequential. Delighted to be in Delhi to co-host the 16th Foreign Minister’s Framework Dialogue with my good friend S Jaishankar to discuss leveraging our partnership for the benefit of our countries & the region. (sic)”

Penny Wong stated that the talks covered a wide range of areas, including strategic technology, defence collaboration, trade expansion and people-to-people ties. Both ministers reaffirmed a joint commitment to ensuring a peaceful, stable, and prosperous regional order at a time of increasing geopolitical complexities.
“We covered strategic tech, defence, trade, people-to-people ties, and our shared vision for a peaceful stable, stable and prosperous region. I visited Australia’s hardworking embassy and met with experts and industry leading the way in cyber and tech,” Wong further wrote.
During her visit, Wong also met staff at Australia’s embassy in Delhi and engaged with experts and industry leaders who are driving advancements in cyber security and emerging technologies. Her trip reflects Canberra’s continued push to strengthen its strategic alignment with India as both countries seek to bolster regional resilience and deepen their economic and security partnerships.
Wong arrived in the national capital on Wednesday to co-chair the 16th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated in a post on X that it offers a significant opportunity to advance the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. India and Australia celebrated the fifth anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in June 2025.
