Registration for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 will not open today. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has revised the application timeline and announced that the GATE 2027 application will begin on August 27, 2026. Once the application begins, candidates will be able to apply via the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal.
Under the revised schedule, candidates will be able to submit their applications without a late fee until September 27, 2026, instead of the earlier deadline of September 21. The extended application period with a late fee will remain open until October 5, 2026, replacing the previous September 30 deadline.
Other important dates have not been changed. The application
rectification window will be available from October 14 to October 21, while the city allotment notification is scheduled to be issued on January 4, 2027. The GATE 2027 examination will be held on February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, with the results expected to be announced on March 19, 2027.
How To Apply For GATE 2027?
Step 1: Head to the official website of GATE 2026 at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
Step 2: On the homepage, look for the Apply Online link and click on it.
Step 3: Next up, register yourself on the portal by providing the required details.
Step 4: After logging in, fill in the GATE 2027 application form and submit all the necessary documents.
Step 5: Pay the application fee and click on proceed.
Step 6: Save and take a hard copy of the application for future reference.
GATE is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
This year, the exam will be conducted across 30 test papers, with candidates permitted to choose one paper or two papers from the approved combinations. A new Robotics and Automation (RA) paper has been added to the examination this year. IIT Madras has also introduced syllabus revisions for several papers, along with changes to the Textile Engineering and Fibre Science paper and the sectional paper codes for Engineering Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Life Sciences.
