Having put Ranchi on the map of world cricket, the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s residence and its giant red gate attract locals and tourists coming to the city in large numbers. People hope to get
a glimpse of the great India wicketkeeper-batter, but often the visit ends in disappointment.
So much so that even renowned singer and MLA Babul Supriyo couldn’t get an uninvited entrance into Dhoni’s Ranchi residence.
In a video shared on Instagram, Surpriyo revealed how his little daughter, Naina, and her cousin brother Golu, pleaded outside Dhoni’s residence to be given a chance to meet the legend, but that couldn’t be arranged.
‘I’m Also A Minister’
In his detailed post, Supriyo noted that the incident happened when the children travelled to Ranchi with their grandparents and crossed Dhoni’s Ranchi residence. The kids requested to stop at Dhoni’s giant red gate and hoped they would be given the entry. They later pleaded with Supriyo to exercise his influence, but even that didn’t work out.

“This is my little one, Naina & her cousin brother Golu on a trip to Ranchi with their grandparents! And this is the GATE OF Thala- MS Dhoni. This is what they did in front of his gate to meet him,” the singer noted, having then tried all tricks to get the two kids to meet one of India’s greatest cricketers.
“(They) spoke to the watchman, said I am (Supriyo) also a minister. Obviously, it didn’t work, so then they (kids) called me to ask for my help – their name-throwing was hilarious. (They) mentioned every name that they thought I knew very well to get his number. When I told them it’s impossible – very few have his number & he seldom uses a phone.”
Supriyo Gets Trolled By Children
As he failed to arrange the meeting with Dhoni, Supriyo said that the two children innocently “bullied” and “trolled” him with messages, calling him “DUMBO”. However, he also noted, “It’s heartwarming to see how much love this Man has earned across generations… Take a bow & honestly, I felt sad I couldn’t & couldn’t have done anything!!!”
The incident reinforced how much of a private and detached man Dhoni has been. During his heyday as the captain of the Indian men’s cricket team, it was challenging even for his teammates to reach out to him if he were on a break. Dhoni has maintained that level of secrecy about himself over the years. The legend will be back in action during the IPL 2026 for Chennai Super Kings.
