Pakistan’s sensational, once-in-a-decade one-wicket chase against England in the Tri-Series ODI at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore involved a moment that a player or fan from either side will probably never forget. Shadab Khan, the hero of the chase who smashed the highest-ever score by a No. 8 (or below) batter in ODI history of 117*, was given out LBW on 97, accepted defeat, only to see the decision overturned.
Shadab’s score was already the best for any batter for that position in the second innings, but Pakistan were 221/9, needing 21 runs in 35 balls, with Haris Rauf holding fort on the other end. Gus Atkinson bowled a stunning yorker which Shadab missed; it ended up hitting him plumb in front. Atkinson and other England players celebrated,
while Shadab was so angry he almost threw his bat on the ground.
He reviewed the decision, almost for the sake of it, and the teams began to shake hands, accepting the 20-run defeat for Pakistan. Just then, the umpires seemed to ask them to wait. Cameras panned to the DRS UltraEdge, which showed a spike when the ball passed Shadab’s bat, which no one expected.
The umpire had to change his decision and did so with a smile on his face, Rauf had his head in his hands, England bench members, who were coming out to shake hands, went back the opposite way, and the match resumed. Watch the moment here:
ONE OF THE CRAZIEST MOMENTS IN CRICKET HISTORY…!!!! 🤯🔥
– Atkinson traps Shadab on 97 with what looks like a plumb LBW.
– The players shake hands, but Shadab takes a review & it reveals an inside edge.
UNREAL SCENES.

Shadab went on to hit two fours and a six against Atkinson to set up Rauf to hit a boundary to win the match, which he did.
“You only enjoy an innings when the team wins,” Shadab said after the match. “So, I’m very happy that I played that innings and we won the match. I think Haris deserves more credit than me because, obviously, tailenders in that position are always keen to hit sixes… He explained things to me more than I explained things to him. He was saying things along the way that I don’t think we can reveal on live TV. I think we had a lot of fun moments and really enjoyed ourselves. We talked more about things other than cricket.”
