Actor Bobby Deol, who continues to enjoy a remarkable career resurgence, recently opened up about his son Aryaman Deol’s much-speculated Bollywood debut. While Aryaman has already caught the public eye
for his striking looks and charm during his rare public appearances with Bobby, the proud father insists that they are in no hurry to launch him — and that the timing and the project must be right.
In a recent interview with ABP Live, Bobby revealed that the family is waiting for a script that can do justice to Aryaman’s potential, while also acknowledging how drastically the industry has evolved since his own debut in the 1990s.
“I’m Not Launching Him, We’re Waiting for the Right Script”
Addressing the ongoing curiosity about Aryaman’s entry into films, Bobby said, “I’m not launching him, but I’m waiting for someone who comes up with a great script for him. We’re waiting right now, and I’ve told my son to work hard on himself until then because the times have changed. When I started, you still got a few chances to prove yourself and get better.”
He added that while the industry once allowed star kids to stumble and recover, the current environment offers no such luxury. “Today’s audience is ruthless and honest. You get one chance — if they connect with you, great; if not, it’s over. That’s the reality now.”
“Being Dharmendra’s Grandson Helps You Once”
The Animal star was candid about the privilege and pitfalls of coming from a film family. While he acknowledged that being Dharmendra’s grandson might help Aryaman get his first project, he emphasized that the legacy can’t guarantee sustained success.
“There are so many actors whose kids have come and not succeeded. Usually, it’s the outsiders who’ve made it. My father was an outsider, and I was blessed to be his son. But it’s your work that speaks for you eventually,” Bobby said.
Citing his nephews Karan and Rajveer Deol as examples, Bobby added, “It hasn’t been easy for my brother’s sons either. Just because they’re Sunny Deol’s sons and Dharmendra’s grandsons doesn’t mean their careers took off. They’ve had to work hard, and they’re still doing that.”
A Reality Check for Star Kids
Bobby’s comments echo a larger truth in today’s film industry, where audience expectations and social media scrutiny have made nepotism a fragile shield. Karan Deol, Sunny Deol’s elder son, made his debut with Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (2019), a film that failed to connect at the box office. Rajveer Deol, Sunny’s younger son, later debuted with Dono (2023), which also struggled to make an impact.
Rajveer had earlier told News18 that he was glad his launch came from outside the family. “I saw my brother at an all-time low after his film flopped. So my biggest fear was not earning it on my own. When Dono happened, I was relieved that I had to audition — I wanted to feel I was worth it,” he said.
Bobby’s Balanced Approach
As Aryaman prepares behind the scenes, Bobby believes the best advice he can offer his son is patience and perseverance. “Every actor has to make his own journey. All I can do is guide him, but the rest is his fight,” Bobby said.
With his recent career high and newfound perspective, Bobby Deol’s grounded take on legacy and merit is a reminder that while surnames can open doors, only hard work keeps them open.
