A Delhi resident has claimed that he discovered a fake Rs 500 note while visiting a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Uttam Nagar. According to his post on Reddit, a customer went to deposit a bundle
of Rs 500 notes at the SBI branch. “When the stack was being counted in the machine, it beeped and the cashier said that it’s a fake note,” he wrote on Reddit.
Curious, he took a closer look and was surprised at how authentic the counterfeit appeared. “I took it from them to see and it was exactly like the original one, just the reflection of Gandhi was cartoonish,” the post read.
He said the fake note was difficult to identify at a glance, adding, “The photo is taken in reflection so it’s not that it can be seen easily you have to see carefully.”
“This was near Uttam Nagar. People near this area, be careful and check your notes twice before dealing,” the user warned.

How The Internet Reacted
Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “It looks so real. If they had put so much effort into everything else, why didn’t they put more effort into that sketch? Anyway, it can work perfectly in the market, nobody really checks a note like that.”
Another shared, “Amitabh Bachchan if he was bald.”
“It looks like a fake currency artist didn’t put any effort,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Seems Gandhi ji and Simpson did a collab.”
Another mentioned, “I have my account in that bank..thank you for informing.”
When someone asked the person what the bank did about the fake note, he informed that the bank staff refused to take responsibility. Instead of helping, they told him not to return to the branch with that note again.
Fake Notes Seized In Maharashtra
In a separate incident in Maharashtra, Nashik rural police arrested two men from Madhya Pradesh and seized fake Rs 500 notes worth Rs 10 lakh during a raid on the Mumbai-Agra highway near Malegaon on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, officers detained the duo outside a hotel and recovered 2,000 fake notes along with two mobile phones.
The accused, identified as Nasir Akram Ansari (34) and Mohammed Zubair Ansari (33), were booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to eight-day police custody. Police are probing the source and distribution network of the fake currency.
