Jaipur, Aug 31 (PTI) A railway police constable was arrested while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district on Monday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau said.
The accused, Mohammad Nadeem Qureshi, is posted at the Lakheri railway police outpost under the Sawai Madhopur railway police station, ACB Director General Govind Gupta said.
According to the ACB, the complainant had alleged that Qureshi demanded Rs 1 lakh for not making him an accused in a case related to the theft of railway material.
The complaint was verified on August 25.
During the verification, Qureshi allegedly agreed to reduce the bribe demand to Rs 80,000 and subsequently to Rs 70,000 after the complainant requested him to lower the amount, Gupta said.
On Monday, Qureshi contacted the complainant and told him that he would come to his house to collect the money, the ACB said.
The bureau then laid a trap and arrested Qureshi while he was allegedly accepting Rs 70,000 from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered from him, officials said.
The accused is being questioned and a case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB said. PTI SDA NB NB
