Rajinikanth Says Film Will Release Post-June 2026
Speaking to the media, Rajinikanth revealed, “I am currently travelling for the Jailer 2 shoot. I am heading towards Kerala for a filming schedule, and it will consist of 6 days of shooting. I think the film will be completed by June next year, so the release will be after that.”
This update finally gives fans some clarity after months of speculation about when Nelson Dilipkumar’s sequel to the 2023 blockbuster would hit screens.
What We Know About Jailer 2
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 will see Rajinikanth return as ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian, facing an even more formidable set of challenges. Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa are reprising their roles from the first part, while new cast additions include SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Anna Rajan.
The film is also bringing back cameos from Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal, with extended special appearances by Nandamuri Balakrishna and Mithun Chakraborty, making this sequel a star-studded affair. Music is once again composed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose pulsating background score was a highlight of the original.
The Journey from Jailer to Jailer 2
The original Jailer (2023) shattered box office records, reaffirming Rajinikanth’s unmatched mass appeal and cementing Nelson as one of Tamil cinema’s most bankable directors. The sequel was officially announced in January 2025 with a short promo featuring Rajinikanth alongside Nelson and Anirudh, sparking immense anticipation across fan circles.
Rajinikanth’s Upcoming Collaborations
Apart from Jailer 2, Rajinikanth is also set to reunite with Kamal Haasan after 46 years for a new film under Raaj Kamal Films International and Red Giant Films. Though the director is yet to be locked in, early reports suggest Lokesh Kanagaraj could helm the project.
Rajinikanth was last seen in Lokesh’s Coolie, an action-packed entertainer featuring Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir, with a special cameo by Aamir Khan.
