An Indian woman living in France has sparked a social media debate after posting a late-night video describing why she feels safe walking home alone there.
The woman, identified as Shubhangi Vyas on Instagram, shared a clip showing herself walking through a quiet street at around 1 am. In the video, she spoke candidly about feeling comfortable returning home alone at that hour.
“My parents would not talk to me if they ever saw this video, but look, it’s 1:00 AM. I’m walking back home alone, wearing a short dress, and nobody’s here to trouble me. That’s why I like France,” she said in the clip.
The text overlay on the video read, “India me aisa kab hoga,” while the caption added, “Waiting for the day girls in India can feel this safe.”
The post quickly gained traction online and opened up discussions around women’s safety in public spaces.
While several users related to her sentiment, many others pointed out that experiences can differ depending on the city, neighbourhood, and circumstances.
One user commented, “Depends on the area,” suggesting that safety levels may vary across different parts of France.
Another wrote, “Low population is one of the reasons,” while discussing why some places might feel safer late at night. While another hopes, “Waiting for the day girls in India can feel this safe.”
A user claiming to live in Paris disagreed with the video’s message and commented, “Bro, I also live in Paris, but it’s not even that safe.”
Another person advised caution despite agreeing with the broader point, writing, “Yes, but still make sure to keep safety tools with you because bad people exist everywhere. Please stay safe.”
One user shared a strongly opposing view and wrote, “France? Not at all. It was one of the most unsafe places I’ve ever travelled to.”
At the same time, others supported Vyas’ experience, with one comment simply reading, “Yes, I agree with you.”
The viral discussion once again highlighted how conversations around women’s safety online often bring sharply different personal experiences and perspectives from people living in different parts of the world.
