Hardoi (UP), Aug 28 (PTI) Panic gripped a village here after a suspected hand grenade was found wrapped in polythene outside a house, with police launching an investigation into its origin and how it reached the spot, officials said.
The incident was reported from Jodhanpurwa village under Harpalpur police station area.
According to resident Satish Kumar, someone allegedly threw a suspicious object wrapped in polythene at his house during the night. The object first landed on a tarpaulin, then fell to the ground and subsequently into rain water.
Kumar said he picked had it up and thrown it outside the house without knowing what was inside.
The following morning, he opened the polythene and was shocked to find what appeared to be a hand grenade,
following which he alerted people in the area.
Police were informed through the Dial-112 emergency service and the suspected hand grenade was taken into police custody.
Circle Officer Harpalpur Praveen Yadav said the bomb disposal squad has been informed and would examine the suspected grenade.
