Bangladesh secured their first-ever home Test victory over Pakistan on Tuesday (May 12), beating the rivals by a massive 104 runs at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
The hosts set up the win in the first innings, scoring 413 runs, propelled by skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s century. Mohammad Abbas took a five-wicket haul, too.
Pakistan opener Azan Awais hit a century in the second essay, but the visitors conceded a slender 27-run lead. Bangladesh built on that superbly, scoring 240/9, with Shanto smashing 87 (150) again. Pacer Nahid Rana then blew through the final innings to bowl Pakistan out for 163.
The win caused a huge upheaval in the World Test Championship (WTC) points standings.
Bangladesh climbed from eighth to sixth in the
table after registering their first win of the cycle. Their percentage of points won (PCT) jumped sharply from 16.67 to 44.44.
Pakistan, meanwhile, slipped from fifth to seventh after suffering its second defeat in three matches. Their points remained unchanged at 12, but their PCT dropped from 50.00 to 33.33 because of the additional loss.
India moved up one place to fifth without playing, benefitting from Pakistan’s decline, while England also dropped a spot to eighth despite no change in their own numbers. The top four — Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka — remained unchanged in both positions and percentages.

How are World Test Championship points and standings calculated
Teams in the World Test Championship earn 12 points for a win, six for a tie, and four for a draw, while no points are awarded for a defeat. Any penalty points for slow over-rates are deducted from the team’s total.
The standings are determined by percentage of points won (PCT) rather than total points, ensuring teams that play fewer matches are not disadvantaged. PCT is calculated using the formula: points won divided by total points contested, multiplied by 100.
Since every Test offers a maximum of 12 points, a team’s percentage reflects how efficiently it has performed across its matches. Every WTC lasts two years, with the teams finishing in the top two playing in an all-deciding final. The 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final is scheduled to take place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England in June 2027.
