A bizarre video from Bihar has gone viral on social media after it allegedly showed villagers charging their mobile phones directly from a high-voltage transformer.
The reel, shared by the Instagram page (theviralorbit), shows several individuals standing near a roadside power transformer while exposed wires appear to be connected directly to the equipment.
The makeshift setup is then reportedly used to charge mobile phones, with people in the video behaving as though the arrangement is completely routine.
The video was uploaded with a warning-filled caption that read, “A viral video from Bihar shows locals tapping directly into a high-voltage transformer to charge their phones. While the internet loves a good ‘jugaad,’ this is a life-threatening
risk.”
While many viewers initially saw the clip as another example of India’s famous “jugaad” culture, where people devise unconventional solutions using limited resources, the visuals also sparked serious concerns among others.
Several users pointed out that tampering with transformers and power lines is not only illegal but can also endanger entire communities by causing grid failures and electrical accidents.
The incident has therefore reignited conversations around electricity theft, inadequate infrastructure, and awareness about electrical safety in rural areas.
The comments section quickly filled with reactions ranging from satire to social commentary. One user wrote, “BIHAR ~ Beyond Intelligence of Human And Robots.”
Another commented, “Its not a creativity … it 😮 shows the situations of india…”
“The biggest source of innovation is problems, and the Bihar government is creating so many problems that new developments and innovations are constantly emerging,” a third user said.
A fourth user joked, “Bihar is not for beginners… Hence proved 🔥”
Another person sarcastically remarked, “Under double engine government people achieve space 🚀 technology 😂”
“If something happens they’ll blame govt,” one comment read.

One user, however, attempted to look at the situation differently and wrote, “This may b mad but another perspective is the people have habit to find way around and that’s a good getter aptitude.Big corporations look for such aptitude in employees who deliver n don’t give excuses of resources.”
