India’s Protistha Samanta advanced to the women’s vault final after finishing fifth in the qualification round at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday. The 22-year-old from West Bengal registered a combined score of 13.025 across her two vaults to secure a spot among the top eight finalists.
Pranati Nayak narrowly missed out on qualification, placing 11th with 12.555 to be listed as the third reserve. Eshitaa Rewale finished 15th with 11.725, while Nishka Agarwal was 19th with 11.075.
In the all-around standings, Protistha and Eshitaa also failed to make the final, ending 27th and 28th with scores of 42.250 and 41.700 respectively. They were placed third and fourth on the reserve list.
India ended ninth in the women’s team event with a total of 123
points. Australia claimed the gold medal with 158.400, followed by Canada (157.300) and England (154.300), who took silver and bronze respectively.
The Indian side was placed fifth after completing all four rotations in Subdivision 3 but dropped to ninth after the remaining subdivisions were concluded.
As per the competition format, the best three scores per apparatus from each team were counted towards the total, while the top eight gymnasts on each apparatus — with a maximum of two per country — qualified for the individual finals.
