In a tragic incident, a construction worker in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain died after he was trapped under an iron scaffolding net while working on an under-construction bridge 50 metres above the ground.
The man was working on the pillar of the bridge without safety equipment when the iron scaffolding mesh collapsed, trapping him. His co-workers made every possible effort to rescue him, but he was badly entangled under the iron net.
The worker was identified as Ashok from Jharkhand, who was fixing the iron mesh with the help of a crane on the bridge constructed near the Ujjain to Indore bypass road, NDTV reported. As soon as Ashok got trapped, the other workers present at the site rushed to help and tried to pull him out.

However, Ashok was so badly entangled that it became impossible for the other workers to rescue him by hand. Eventually, a welding machine was used to cut the net, and Ashok was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
“We received information of a labourer being trapped in this under-construction bridge near Shanti Palace. He has been rescued and sent to the hospital,” Nilganga Police Station in-charge Tarun Kuril told news agency ANI at the time.
Ashok later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. SDM Pawan Bariya and SI Tarun Kuril reached the spot after learning of the accident and assessed the situation. Ashok’s body was sent for a post-mortem and an investigation has been launched to examine the cause of the accident.
