After Delhi, another metro city in India has been gripped by the menace of poor air quality. Mumbai is battling severe air pollution, with the maximum quality standing at 306 in Mazgaon. Other areas recorded
an AQI in the ‘poor’ category, including Deonar (274), Navy Nagar–Colaba (271), Chakala–Andheri East (270), Malad West (224), Powai (206) and Siddharth Nagar–Worli (205).
As the City of Dreams chokes under thick haze, Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, has expressed her concern over the situation in her latest social media entry. The first, now-deleted Instagram Story featured a screenshot with an AQI of 227 with PM2.5 at 152. Voicing her alarm, she also added a mask and heartbreak emoji.

Now, Mumbaikers have also voiced their distress over the worrying air pollution in the city. Let’s take a look at some of the reactions on X.
Re-sharing Ritika Sajdeh’s post, a user wrote, “Mumbai AQI 257 and Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika has spoken up. Now it’s time for Delhi celebrities to raise their voices too. This pollution is killing us. Speak now.”

Dropping an almost similar video from Borivali, an individual pointed out, “This is Borivali in Mumbai, where 1 Bhk starts from 80L -1Cr and this is the AQI condition here. You can see the colour of the sky. Only high-rise buildings and malls are being constructed. Really fed up seeing AQI conditions everywhere in India.”

Yet another Mumbaiker compared the shocking AQI difference between the city and that of Mauritius by uploading two pictures from an aeroplane. “Views from the window seat of the flight the same day!!! Delhi AQI is so bad that we think other Indian cities are better, while they are mostly equally bad,” they wrote.

The continued rise of poor air quality has led the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to consider imposing the strictest air-pollution curbs under GRAP Stage IV. The BMC revealed that Stage IV measures will be implemented in areas where AQI remains above 300 for three consecutive days.
