A birthday trip meant to celebrate love has now turned into a case raising serious questions.
31-year-old influencer Ashlee Jenae died while on vacation in Tanzania with her fiancé, Joe McCann. What began as a celebratory trip, complete with a recent proposal and social media posts showing her in high spirits, has quickly become the centre of an unfolding investigation.
Authorities have since detained McCann in connection with the case, though no formal charges have been filed so far.
According to people close to Jenae, it was McCann who informed her family that she had died by suicide. But that explanation has been strongly questioned.

Friends say the claim doesn’t match what they saw in her final days. Just a week before her death, Jenae had been sharing cheerful posts, including moments from her trip and her engagement. There were no visible signs of distress.
A close friend, Savannah Britt, has publicly said she does not believe the account of suicide and is calling for a deeper investigation.

On April 4, Jenae shared her proposal video with thousands of followers, along with photos of her and her fiancé. Earlier posts showed her enjoying wildlife experiences, including feeding a giraffe outside her hotel room.
Those clips, now widely reshared, are being revisited as people try to understand what may have happened.
