Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tore the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowling attack to shreds as he equalled his own record for the fastest fifty of this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL), powering an unbeaten Rajasthan Royals (RR) to a fourth successive victory on Friday.
Sooryavanshi raced to his half-century from just 15 deliveries, hammering eight fours and seven towering sixes during his 26-ball 78. He took only 15 balls to score 74 of his 78 runs in fours (8) and sixes (7).
What caught everyone’s eye was the 15-year-old’s reaction on getting out, even as the fans in the stands gave him a standing ovation at Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
The young batter admitted he was slightly disappointed after getting out, feeling
he could have contributed more.
“if I stay on the wicket, then another 10-20 runs can be made, if we are chasing the target, then we can finish it two overs earlier, or if we set the target, then 10-20 runs can be made more,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Despite his growing fame, Sooryavanshi remains grounded, crediting the support of his family and team for helping him stay focused. “They always tell me that it is a long journey and my focus should only and only be on the game,” he said, referring to the guidance from his father Sanjiv and the team support staff.
Captains Hail Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
RCB captain Rajat Patidar said that RR’s batting, particularly the impact of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, made the difference in the match. “The way their batters, especially Vaibhav, batted in the powerplay, I think that made a huge difference,” he said while speaking at the post-match presentation
RR captain Riyan Parag said that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a fun-loving character who is well-liked within the team.
“I think everyone loves him. Everyone loves having him around. He likes eating stuff. He likes going out and stuff like that. So we make sure we make that available for him. And he’s a 16-year-old kid, 15-year-old, whatever it is. Yeah, doing kiddish things. And he’s happy with that. He likes a lot of batting. So we make sure that is presented to him. And if he keeps on batting like that, I think whatever he wants,” Parag said.
