Thane, Sep 1 (PTI) A senior citizen has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl and making obscene remarks to her in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Tuesday.
Based on a complaint lodged by the child’s mother, the Bhiwandi police registered a case under section 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, an official said.
The 62-year-old accused, who is employed in a powerloom, was the victim’s neighbour in a chawl in the Taware Wadi area, he said.
The complainant alleged that while her daughter was feeding an animal in the vacant space near their chawl on Sunday
night, the accused allegedly grabbed the girl’s hand with sexual intent and uttered obscene remarks, the official said.
