Pune, Jun 15 (PTI) A grass fire broke out at the Dehu Road Ordnance Factory near Pune on Monday while ammunition testing was underway, but it was brought under control without any casualties or damage to the infrastructure, an official said.
The fire erupted between 10:30 am and 10:45 am in the proof range where ammunition is tested, the official from the fire department told PTI.
“Sometimes ammunition lands in the grass and sparks a fire. Due to strong winds, the fire spread over a larger area than usual today,” he said.
Fire tenders from the factory as well as nearby civic fire services including those from Pimpri Chinchwad were pressed into service to contain the blaze, he said.
The fire was completely under control and there was no cause for
concern, the official added. PTI SPK KRK
