During his emotional retirement speech at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar promised to make up for all the time he couldn’t spend with his wife Anjali and children Sara
and Arjun in his post-retirement days. Living up to his words, the cricketing maestro has been largely detached from the sport and enjoying life beyond the field with his family on various getaways at scenic locations in India and around the globe.
One such place close to Sachin Tendulkar‘s heart is the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. Located in eastern Maharashtra, the cricketer absolutely loves this wildlife escape in his home state. In a video shared on his Instagram handle, Tendulkar was seen exploring the dense forests and adventurous surroundings of the place. He also went on an exciting sightseeing retreat, capturing Tadoba’s celebrated big cats in all their glory.
Tendulkar Loves Tadoba
Interacting with his followers via the clip, Tendulkar noted, “I find myself coming back to Tadoba quite often. There’s just something about it that I can’t put my finger on.” Tendulkar’s feeling urged to come back to the wildlife sanctuary was quite understandable the moment the camera panned across to the Royal Bengal Tiger in its true elements. The tigers appeared ever so intimidating, dangerous and yet iconic, best sighted from a distance by visitors.

The Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve holds a significant place in India’s wildlife heritage. Spread across 1,727 square kilometres in the Chandrapur district, the reserve is one of Maharashtra’s largest and most biologically rich protected habitats. At a time when excess tourism continues to affect several wildlife destinations in the world, Tadoba retains its rawness and secluded vibe, where visitors can go on safaris without any chaos and too much noise.
The huge area has a perfect blend of dense forests, bamboo thickets, open meadows and the Tadoba River. Its varied terrain is instrumental in preserving the reserve’s diverse wildlife. Because the reserve is home to a thriving population of Bengal tigers, it gives visitors regular sightseeing opportunities. Something that has made it a perfect getaway for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers and those who simply love being one with nature.
More On Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve
The safari experience at the reserve is divided into core areas and buffer zones and is shaped massively by its flora, featuring teak, bamboo, mahua and tendu trees all around. The reserve remains open to visitors from October 1 to June 30. It is closed during the monsoon season when the forest undergoes regeneration. While summers can be good for clear wildlife sightings, people often prefer the winter and its cooler and more pleasant atmosphere for the safaris.
Morning safaris inside the reserve are organised between 6 AM and 10 AM, whereas the afternoon safaris operate during the 2.30 PM-6.30 PM timeslot. Since the Chandrapur district is connected by road and rail with the nearest regions of Maharashtra, both safari slots are usually stacked with wildlife lovers. Depending on zone, season and availability, the jeep safari generally costs around Rs 5,000. Due to Tadoba’s popularity, travellers are best advised to make advanced bookings during the peak season.
