Imtiaz Ali has made a strong statement against those who wear either burqa or parda. In a recent interview, the filmmaker slammed women who follow these and said that if they feel comfortable with it, it means that they have been ‘victimised’.
“I don’t like when someone says ‘I am comfortable in my Burqa. I am comfortable in my parda’. It’s a degenerated society; if you feel like this, it’s not okay. It means that you have become so victimised in your mind, I don’t know how,” Imtiaz Ali told Samdish Bhatia on his podcast.
When the host mentioned that different communities have different rules and that they cannot be stopped from following it, Imtiaz responded by saying, “Nai tokne wali baat nai hai (It’s not about stopping someone).” He further
added, “But the people around me, my thinking is not that I am stopping someone or I am going to someone’s house and talking. But there should be tolerance, moderation. See, my latest thought is that where have the moderates gone? Nowadays, everyone is extreme. Dialogue has become difficult. I am not your enemy.”
Imtiaz Ali’s Latest Film: Main Vaapas Aaunga
Imtiaz Ali is currently enjoying the success of his recently released movie, Main Vaapas Aaunga. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina in pivotal roles. While the film has received positive reviews, it has not been able to generate strong numbers at the box office so far. As per reports, Main Vaapas Aaunga has collected Rs 8.30 crore nett in India after five days.
Recently, Imtiaz Ali also opened up about Main Vaapas Aaunga’s box office and told Hindustan Times, “We are not a star-driven film, so this film was supposed to be like this. It couldn’t have opened big. If it is good, people would go and tell other people to watch it, and that’s the only way this film is going to progress. Hopefully it will continue to grow and strengthen itself.”
“I am particularly happy that the younger generation is coming in and liking it. Usually there is a phase lag between acclaim and box office, and hopefully we are coming close to the end of that lag,” the filmmaker said, adding, “Now, there is an uptrend in the sale of tickets. The figures are improving if you see the sales.”
