Indian women’s cricket team head coach Amol Muzumdar finally revealed how he and the victorious Harmanpreet Kaur-led side celebrated after winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
India edged out
South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, to clinch their first-ever World Cup crown.
Speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, Amol Muzumdar revealed that the winning moment felt ‘surreal’ and still gives him ‘goosebumps’ just thinking about it.
“It was just a surreal moment, you know, when Herman took that catch and she went out on a roll, you know, she just went off. The roar of the crowd was unbelievable. I actually had goosebumps. I mean, I’m having goosebumps even now sometimes when I watch the reel, even now after a month, you know, you get those goosebumps moments, and it’s been surreal,” Amol Muzumdar told CNN-News18 exclusively.
When asked about how he and the Indian cricket team celebrated, Amol Muzumdar revealed: “The fact that 50,000 people in DY Patil Stadium stayed back for all the celebrations, and we went back, I think, to the room at about 2:30 AM in the morning.”
“We enjoyed as we have enjoyed each other’s company. We enjoyed that moment really nicely. It was fantastic to see all the players coming out there, their families there, it meant so much. The struggle, the sacrifices that they have made. It was all for that one moment, one catch that Harman (Harmanpreet) took and it all got, I mean, it erupted after that. So I thought it was superbly scripted, really nice.”
“I’m not too emotional a person. I try to control my emotions on a cricket field I’ve learned over the years. But that was a moment where I was allowed to share a couple of tears. When I met Smriti (Mandhana), yeah, that was the one where I recollected a lot of stuff that we had gone through in the last two years, the emotions, the energies that were they were flowing in and around the camps, the hard work that that went along and above all, you know, what I felt really good about was this team. They’re good human beings, very good human beings. It couldn’t have happened to better people,” Amol Muzumdar added.
