Mohammed Siraj was in action for his domestic side, Hyderabad, on Friday (December 12) in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) match against Mumbai. In Hyderabad’s first Super League match, the 31-year-old fast bowler impressed with his bowling and returned with figures of 3/21 in 3.5 overs. He opened his wicket account by taking Suryansh Shedge’s catch of his own bowling in the 17th over of Mumbai’s innings, and then on the next ball of that same over, he trapped Mumbai skipper Shardul Thakur in front of the wickets.
Shardul, who will play for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026 after joining them in a trade deal from Lucknow Super Giants, failed to open his account.
Siraj’s third wicket came in the form of Tanush Kotian. Kotian could only manage to score
2 runs from five balls for the defending champions.

Siraj’s super show with the ball helped Hyderabad bowl Mumbai out for just 131 runs in 18.5 overs. Apart from him, Chama Milind and Tanay Thyagarajan picked up two wickets each, and Mumbai’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was sent back to the pavilion by Nitin Sai Yadav on the last ball of the powerplay.
Mumbai had high hopes from Jaiswal, who last played a T20I match for India in July 2024, but the left-handed batter could only manage to score 29 runs from 20 balls. During his stay at the crease, he hammered 6 fours.
Hyderabad chased down the 132-run target in 11.5 overs for the loss of only one wicket. For them, opener Tanmay Agarwal scored 75 runs from 40 balls, and Aman Rao remained unbeaten on 52 runs from 29 balls.
For his superb bowling in the match against Mumbai, Siraj won the Player Of The Match award.
In other matches, India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy made 25 and took a hat-trick (3/17 in 3 overs) for Andhra but Madhya Pradesh emerged a four-wicket victor in a low-scoring match.
Andhra were all out for 112 in 19.1 overs, and MP reached 113 for six in 17.3 overs, braving Reddy’s burst.
The medium pacer bagged the wickets of opener Harsh Gawali, No. 3 Harpreet Singh Bhatia and No. 4 and skipper Rajat Patidar in successive balls in the third over of the innings.
MP were 14 for three then but recovered well to grab four full points on offer.
