'35,000 Applicants & 7,000 Spot Offers': Massive Turnout At Youth Congress Job Fair On Rahul Gandhi's Birthday

Thousands of aspiring job seekers flooded New Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium on Friday to participate in a mega job fair organised by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), the organisers said. The “Maha Rozgar Mela” was purposefully scheduled to coincide with the 56th birthday of senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The scale of the event became evident early in the day as massive queues of candidates formed outside the venue, completely packing the stadium halls with young individuals looking for corporate placement opportunities.

Organised jointly by the IYC and the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, the employment initiative drew an overwhelming response across the National Capital Region. Organisers revealed

that online registrations had to be closed five days prior to the event after nearly 35,000 candidates signed up. The fair catered to a remarkably broad demographic, welcoming job seekers ranging from Class 10 school leavers to advanced postgraduate degree holders, all looking to secure employment in an increasingly competitive urban market.

Private Sector Partnership Drives On-The-Spot Hiring

To facilitate actual employment avenues, the opposition party’s youth wing partnered with more than 150 prominent private corporations and financial institutions. Major global and domestic brands, including Tata Motors, Amazon, Flipkart, Haier, Larsen & Toubro, Kia, Nykaa, and HDFC Bank, established active recruitment stalls within the stadium. Representatives from these companies conducted direct, face-to-face evaluations and on-the-spot interviews throughout Friday.

IYC leadership confirmed that selected candidates were being issued formal offer letters immediately at the venue, enabling successful applicants to be hired on the day. Furthermore, the organisers have committed to keeping a dedicated helpline active for one month following the fair to provide extended assistance and track subsequent recruitment rounds for shortlisted applicants.

Political Undertones and ‘Silent Protest’ Over Unemployment

While the event served a practical economic purpose, it also carried significant political weight. Addressing journalists outside the stadium, IYC National President Uday Bhanu Chib described the massive turnout as a structural reflection of India’s current employment challenge. Framing the megafair as a tactical “silent protest” against the ruling establishment, Chib accused the central government of failing to deliver on historical promises of job creation while highlighting the widespread anxiety caused by recurrent examination paper leaks.

Congress officials stated that despite not being the party in power at the Centre, the initiative demonstrates a proactive approach to bridging the gap between corporate requirements and unemployed youth. Meanwhile, parliamentary civility crossed party lines earlier in the day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended public birthday greetings to Gandhi, wishing him health and longevity, even as the political optics of the Talkatora Stadium gathering sought to spotlight the ongoing domestic debate over youth employment.
