Star West Indies allrounder Romario Shepherd on Saturday, February 7, became the first bowler from his country to pick a hat-trick at the T20 World Cup, when he dismissed Scotland wicketkeeper Matthew Cross, Michael Leask and Oliver Davidson on three consecutive deliveries.
Shepherd’s exploits continued till the final delivery of the over, when he dismissed Safyan Sharif for a two-ball duck to pick four wickets in the 17th over.
Shepherd thus joins an elite list comprising Brett Lee, Curtis Campher, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kagiso Rabada, Karthik Meiyappan, Josh Little, Pat Cummins and Chris Jordan. The latter was the last one to pick a hat-trick at a T20 World Cup, when he dismissed Ali Khan, Nosthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar in 2024.
Meanwhile,
Campher picked four wickets in four deliveries, dismissing Colin Ackermann, Ryan ten Doeschate, Scott Edwards and Roelof van der Merwe in 2021.
Shepherd claimed a five-for after Shimron Hetmyer’s blazing fifty as two-time champions West Indies started their T20 World Cup campaign with a comfortable 35-run victory over late entrants Scotland in Kolkata on Saturday.
