PM Modi Independence Day Speech: Prime Minister Narendra Modi used his Independence Day address on Saturday to underline the government’s support for farmers amid global economic and geopolitical disruptions, highlighting subsidised fertiliser prices and new export opportunities for the agriculture and allied sectors.
Urea At ₹300 Against ₹3,000 Global Price
One of the key points in Modi’s address was the price of fertilisers and the burden being absorbed by the government.
PM Modi said the price of a bag of urea had reached ₹3,000 in the global market, but Indian farmers were being provided the same at ₹300.
“Even today, we are not forcing our farmers to bear that burden. The government is carrying that burden on its own shoulders,” Modi said.
He said the measure was part of India’s ability
to withstand global crises without passing the full impact on to farmers.
DAP At ₹1,350
Modi also highlighted the price of DAP, another key fertiliser used by farmers.
While the global market price of a bag of DAP had reached ₹5,000, Modi said farmers in India were being provided it at ₹1,350.
The Prime Minister presented the fertiliser support as part of the government’s broader effort to protect farmers from global price shocks.
Self-Reliance And Farm Security
PM Modi linked the availability of fertilisers, along with gas and petrol, to India’s preparations to deal with global crises.
“We are standing and moving forward on the strength of our own capabilities,” he said.
The message was part of the wider Atmanirbhar Bharat theme of the speech, with Modi stressing the need to reduce dependence on other countries and strengthen domestic capabilities.
Shrimp And Seafood Exports
Modi also pointed to opportunities for India’s seafood sector following the latest free trade agreement, particularly for shrimp exporters.
He said the FTA had created significant opportunities for India’s shrimp industry and that Indian seafood had the potential to reach markets around the world.
The Prime Minister urged the country to take advantage of the opportunity and make efforts to overcome challenges facing exporters.
The 2047 Link
Modi placed these measures within the larger goal of building a developed India by 2047, saying the foundations for that ambition were being built on the capabilities demonstrated by Indians over the past 10-12 years.
He said a quarter of the century had already passed and that India could not slow down its pace or change its direction.
