Indian marriages are often steeped in superstitions. Whether you believe them or not, these omens add a playful charm to the celebrations. For example, if boiling milk spills anytime before, during or after
the wedding, it is usually believed to be a forewarning. If the bride wears something borrowed on their wedding day, it is believed to bring good luck. Keeping a similar theme in mind, online matchmaking and matrimony service Shaadi.com launched a humourous campaign in Lucknow that has grabbed the internet’s attention.
A day ago, the platform posted a picture on Instagram, giving a playful nod to a popular marriage superstition. The photo showcased an enormous wok, also known as a kadhai in India, placed in the middle of the street. The wok was filled with boxes of snacks, including sweets and savouries, which are usually offered by the guests during a marriage ceremony. But there’s a catch.
Shaadi.Com’s Kadhai Prank Leaves Internet In Splits
The wok came with a cheeky message, inscribed inside which read, “Kadhai se kha liya? Shaadi mein baarish pakki. (Did you eat it straight from the wok? Looks like rain is guaranteed at your wedding).” Shaadi.com named the fun campaign, ‘Kadhai Prank’. According to reports, curious crowds rushed to grab the free delicacies, only to discover the iconic desi twist that came with it.

For those unaware, in India, it is a popular belief that if the bride or groom eats food directly from an iron kadhai, then it is likely to rain on their wedding day. Shaadi.com’s clever activation, mixed humour, has now turned everyday superstition into a trending social moment, leaving the internet in splits.
When Kadhai Superstition Got Real
Earlier in May, a video of a groom arriving at his wedding venue amid heavy rain reinforced the kadhai superstition. In the clip, the man’s family, relatives and friends were seen standing under a protective area to avoid getting wet. The groom, on the other hand, sat on the horse while some people held an umbrella over his head.

What stole the spotlight was the caption that read, “Aur khao kadhai me khana (Go ahead, eat from the kadhai).”
