There was a time in the mid-2000s when Bollywood gossip columns, music channels and movie posters were all talking about one new face. Long before social media made overnight fame common, audiences were intrigued by a young actor who suddenly became impossible to ignore after sharing screen space with Salman Khan. For many movie lovers who grew up in that era, Sneha Ullal remains one of those unforgettable names tied to a very specific moment in Bollywood nostalgia.
Sneha made her acting debut with Lucky: No Time for Love, opposite Salman Khan, and quickly found herself at the centre of public attention. While the film gave her instant visibility, much of the conversation at the time revolved around her striking resemblance to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The comparisons became a major talking point across television, magazines and entertainment circles, often overshadowing Sneha’s own introduction as a newcomer.
Interestingly, acting had never been part of Sneha’s original plans. She was still in college and had described herself as a tomboy before she was noticed through contacts connected to Salman’s sister, Arpita Khan Sharma. Salman, who was then looking for a fresh face for Lucky, reportedly saw potential in her and cast her in the film.
Years later, Sneha revealed that the constant “lookalike” headlines once left her worried about how Aishwarya might feel. Speaking in a recent interview with AlphaNeon Studioz, she recalled apologising to the former Miss World over the endless comparisons.
“I told her, ‘I’m sorry, please don’t hate me’. There was so much comparison in the media at that time, I didn’t know if she took offence,” she said.
According to Sneha, Aishwarya reacted warmly when they eventually met. “I met Aishwarya once, and she said, ‘Welcome to the family. Welcome to Bollywood’, something like that,” Sneha shared.
Although Lucky turned her into a familiar face overnight, Sneha’s Bollywood journey did not fully take off in the way many expected. After appearing in a few Hindi films, including Aryan alongside Sohail Khan, she gradually shifted her focus towards South Indian cinema, especially Telugu films.
That transition proved to be an important chapter in her career. Sneha found success with films like Ullasamga Utsahamga, which marked her Telugu debut, and later the commercially successful Simha opposite Nandamuri Balakrishna.
But behind the scenes, the actor was also dealing with health challenges. Sneha later opened up about suffering from an autoimmune disorder that affected her energy levels and forced her to step away from acting for periods of time. Over the years, she chose a quieter life away from the constant glare that surrounded her early Bollywood days.
After remaining away from the screen for a while following 2015, Sneha returned to acting in 2020 with the web series Expiry Date. She later appeared in Love You Loktantra and was also part of Saako 363.
Most recently, the actor made her comeback to Telugu cinema with Nilakanta, continuing her steady return to the screen with a more selective and grounded approach to work.
