India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow has gathered momentum, with the contingent registering an impressive tally of 10 medals so far. A remarkable six-medal haul in a single day proved to be a turning point, pushing India up the standings and underlining its dominance.
The highlight of India’s campaign has been the gold medal performances by Mirabai Chanu and para-athlete Sharmila Dhankar.
Chanu continued her dominance in weightlifting, clinching her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 48kg category with a combined lift of 190kg. Dhankar, meanwhile, scripted history by becoming India’s first para-athletics gold medallist at the Games, winning the women’s shot put F57 event.
India’s silver medal tally has
also seen significant contributions, largely from weightlifting and athletics. Rishikanta Singh opened India’s account in able-bodied competition with a silver in the men’s 60kg category, while Muthupandi Raja followed up with another podium finish in the 65kg division. Gyaneshwari Yadav added to the tally in the women’s 53kg category, and Valluri Ajaya Babu secured silver in the men’s 79kg event.
In athletics, Sarvesh Kushare made history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games silver in men’s high jump.
The bronze medals have come from a mix of para and weightlifting events. Jhandu Kumar opened India’s medal account in Glasgow with a bronze in para powerlifting, while Bindyarani Devi continued her consistency with another CWG medal in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event. Shilpa Shyla rounded off the list with a bronze in women’s shot put F57, awarded after a successful appeal.
