The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to sack Aqib Javed from the men’s selection committee in the aftermath of the team’s series defeat against England.
According to PTI, Javed will be the latest casualty of the tour, which has already led to the firings of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul, and the return tickets for the seven players who were removed from the squad after the second Test. Chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq has also tendered his resignation after he was reportedly not consulted for the replacement of the seven discarded players.
But Javed’s dismissal would be the most critical of them all. The former cricketer is seen as a man of heft in the PCB and is regarded as ‘the blue-eyed boy’ of the board chairman
Mohsin Naqvi, who’s also the interior minister of Pakistan. Naqvi, who is himself under pressure from his political seniors, is expected to ask Javed to focus on his other job as the Director of Development at the Lahore High Performance Centre.
