India’s Jemimah Rodrigues rarely goes through an ICC competition without putting her name in the hat for the ‘Catch of the Tournament’. Her best entry for the 2025 Women’s World Cup came on Sunday (October
12) as she flew like a Super Woman to pluck a stunner against Australia’s Beth Mooney in Vizag.
A big crowd at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium watched with bated breath when off-spinner Deepti Sharma’s looped up ball well outside left-handed Mooney’s off-stump, dipped in front of her. Mooney was dancing down the track and couldn’t get under the trajectory completely, hitting it flat to the left of short covers.
Jemimha flung herself at it, with no care of the fact that she was leaping on hard practice pitches and not grass — which can seriously injure players — and somehow managed to grab it with her right. Watch it here:

It was an extremely crucial wicket for India. Mooney is not only one of the best batters in the world but also an in-form one, coming off an excellent match-winning century against Pakistan.
Before Mooney came out to bat, Ellyse Perry was well-set at 32 but had to walk out due to cramps. Mooney’s breakthrough at 4 (8), thus, felt like two in one.
How India put up the huge total
Earlier, India posted a commanding 330, thanks to elegant fifties from Smriti Mandhana (80 off 66) and Pratika Rawal (75 off 96). The pair stitched a brilliant 155-run opening stand in just 24.3 overs, laying the foundation after a series of batting failures in earlier matches. It was the duo’s sixth century partnership in 21 innings, closing in on the Indian record.
Australia briefly fought back when Molineux (3/75) dismissed both openers, triggering a mini-collapse as India slipped from 240/2 to 240/4. However, Richa Ghosh and Rodrigues steadied the innings with a 54-run stand, ensuring India crossed 300. Annabel Sutherland (5/40) was the pick of the Aussie bowlers, but India’s late flourish of 90 runs in the final 10 overs powered them to the formidable total.
