Sudha Chandran didn’t expect a moment of deep personal faith to turn into a social media debate. But after videos from a recent jagran began circulating online, the actor found herself at the centre of intense
scrutiny and trolling. Now, she has addressed the backlash head-on, making it clear that she owes no explanations for her spiritual experience.
In a conversation with Zoom, Sudha spoke about the online reactions that followed the viral clips, many of which questioned the authenticity of her emotional state during the religious gathering. According to her, several users dismissed the episode as exaggerated or staged.
Responding to the criticism, Sudha said, “I am not here to justify. I have my perception towards life. I have certain connections that I respect. Mujhe logon se koi lena dena nahi hai. Joh troll karte hai, acchi baat hai, khush rahe apne zindagi mein (I don’t care about those people. The ones who are trolling, good for them. Be happy). What about those millions of people who could connect and resonate with it? Mere liye woh important hai (For me, that is important).”
The actor further emphasised that she does not feel answerable to online trolls or unsolicited opinions. Describing herself as a self-made woman, Sudha said she intends to continue living her life with self-respect, dignity, and faith in the divine.
Reflecting on past judgments she has faced, the Naagin actor added, “In my life, I have never thought about log kya bolenge. Even after my accident, logon ne kaha tha ki kya bewakoofi kar rahi ho tum (Even after my accident, people said I was being foolish for the activities I did). Lekin jab wahi ek success story ban jata hai, log usi ke baare mein charcha karte hai (But once it becomes a success story, people only talk about it).”
The controversy erupted earlier this week after multiple videos from the jagran surfaced on social media. The clips showed Sudha in what appeared to be a trance-like state, visibly overwhelmed during the devotional session. Some attendees were seen attempting to restrain her as she moved around the hall, with a few moments showing her biting those who tried to stop her.
In the viral visuals, Sudha was dressed in a red and white saree and wore a headband that read ‘Jai Mata Di’. As the bhajan played, she appeared emotionally overcome, jumping and moving uncontrollably, seemingly lost in the spiritual moment.
